The Ca Formenta is on Via Garibaldi, a long street that crosses a residential zone. Unlike the area surrounding the Piazza San Marco, this neighborhood has not been over-run by tourists. The street's cafés and restaurants are mainly filled with Venetian locals keen to avoid the touristy, world-famous square. The hotel is between the Biennale gardens (350 m / 382 yards) and the Piazza San Marco (900m / 990 yards).
Opened in 2003, the Hotel Ca Formenta is in a renovated building believed to date from the 14th century, when it was a residence in a district filled with merchants who sold their wares to Venice's merchant and war ships. This property attracts those looking for an escape from the crowds in San Marco, and overlooks the lagoon with its yachts docked along the water's edge. Private water-taxi pick-up/drop-off point.
Its 21 air-conditioned guestrooms are set in connecting one-,two- and three-story buildings. Rooms offer ivory-colored furnishings, blue fabrics, tiffany lamps and detail prints of Sistine Chapel frescoes. A continental buffet breakfast is served daily to hotel guests free of charge. The hotel bar, with a covered indoor patio, serves snacks and drinks from mid-morning to late evening.
